Black stone Croft Print

Early work by contemporary Scottish artist, Mairi Sutherland, in the style of Highland modern folk croft art, now traditionally painted in bright coloured watercolour paints. It gives a nod to Jomolo who champions this kind of work though perhaps more primitive than his style.I give a good stab at the Highland croft though noticeably unlike other documentary pieces, I authentically show that many of the crofts no longer have roofs on them. A feature which calls back to the old blackhouses which characteristically were made of blackstone and called blackhouses because many of them were built form other cottages that had been burnt out under the Highland clearances and were black in appearance. I call this one the black stone croft because at the age of 8 I went to see the family croft, but it was not a croft it was a ruin of black stones that had been burnt out so many times the stones where vitrified.
