ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the distance I can see the border of my lands, in fact, the lands on which I walk and live. Because the land where I walk and live is mine, not by convention, but by mutual belonging.

On July 5, 1964, in the city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, the state that houses most of the Brazilian Pantanal, Flávio de Barros was born. When he was 12 years old, he started his artistic studies with his tutor Wanda Lícia Stolf, a plastic artist with excellent academic training, who maintained an art studio which he attended for four years. In his youth, he moved to Rio de Janeiro where he studied architecture at the University of Santa Úrsula, an environment where art was in every corner with great museums, exhibitions, the interaction with masters and artists, influenced him greatly. The regional Pantanal culture and contact with local artists are also part of this artist's cultural background.
