ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This portrait titled "Boy at the Station" features a momentary snapshot into the feelings and thoughts of a teenage boy as he waits for his train to arrive. My portraits explore empathy through the study of the individual and their inner experience. I work with acrylic paint using dramatic contrast to draw attention to specific areas of the face. Often my subjects are unknown or intentionally presented as anonymous. The colors I use highlight emotion and interact with the viewer on a subconscious or symbolic level.

Jessica Mavropoulos graduated with a BFA degree from Cal State University Channel Islands. Her work has been seen in galleries in Southern California and St. Louis Missouri. Her unique representation of Lady Liberty titled 'Mother of Exiles' has been used as a visual protest sign all over the united states. In addition to creating a wide range of visual art, Jessica lives full time in her Airstream, and works as a traveling political canvasser in Arizona.
