Breaking Waves Print

The painting depicts the wave patterns observed on a Spanish Mediterranean coast of waves hitting just one rock. It therefore suggests the influence of time on natural elements. The style is semi-abstract with certain art deco elements although the concept of time displacement comes from the French photographer, Étienne-Jules Marey’s pioneering work. The viewer can feel some sense of harmony in how nature provides a synthesized form, even when the subject is dependent on elements beyond its control. It may be one rock, but its form in a constant flux creates a myriad of interpretations.
