ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Olive Jam Olive Jam is a delicious specialty of Siwa Oasis in the western desert of Egypt. Large amounts of sugar are added to olive to make jam out of the naturally sour tasting fruit creating a taste of the duality of sweetness and bitterness found side by side in many aspects of life In this exhibition, Lina Osama finds deep inspiration in Siwa. Having visited it five times since 2009, her paintings explore the simple life of the people of the oasis unfolding layers of history through its ancient monuments and kaleidoscopic visual culture with its Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Amazigh, African and Islamic influences over thousands of years.
