C-O-Series of Marian Kainhofer points out the connection between money (represented by the € sign with a torn out - ) and the climate change caused by CO2 emissions. C-O 005 was the last pure watercolor-painting in his New-Zealand-lockdown-cycle before Kainhofer ran out of normal colors. ______ The painting is part of the artist's extensive 'Lockdown-Cycle' - a large number of mostly abstract pictures that Kainhofer painted in the New Zealand outback above Golden Bay. He had retreated there for several months in early 2020 to wait out what he called 'Corona-madness', which had surprised him on a trip around the world. The decelerated and self-reflected life led to a burst of creativity from which over 20 works emerged. ______ Since Kainhofer had to work without the materials from his Munich studio during this time, these paintings were almost exclusively created using natural colors, which he made from coffee-, curry- and chilli-powder or other materials he could buy at supermarkets (the only stores that were allowed to open during lockdown) ______ This makeshift led to a new, grainy surface-structure of the pictures and the reduced colour spectrum gave rise to completely new ideas and facets of his style.

Germany
Born in Bavaria / Germany, Kainhofer regards himself as a ‘cosmopolitan’, who not only travels a lot for inspiration, but also lives and works in other countries for months, sometimes years. Thus - in addition to the pictures from his Munich cycles - numerous works were created in Spain (2011-2014), Asia (2014-2015) and New Zealand (2020). Kainhofers work mainly includes abstract and large-format paintings. His preferred materials are acrylic and water colours on paper and canvas. He also experiments with natural colours, which he extracts from commercial spices like curry or chilli, coffee powder and others.
