About The Artwork
Campbells Tomato Soup Disaster in Gray is a 15” x 11” original painting on premium 300gsm Italian paper and is part of my "Luxurious Disaster: A 21st Century Tale of Love, Fame & Tragedy" series of pop artworks. I have created a loosely connected group of paintings which take as their subjects vintage advertising images, Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup cans, 20th Century Americana, consumer products, Louis Vuitton and Chanel luxury fashion luxury logos, iconic imagery, politics, classic Greek & Roman sculpture, prescription drugs and the concept of failing technology through pixel-glitched computer data corruption. In this work, I'm paying particular homage to one of my influences, Andy Warhol. These original hand-painted and silkscreened, unique one-of-a-kind artworks appropriate source material from history, social media, pop culture, art history, vintage newspapers and the local shopping mall. I use oil paint, enamel and screen printing as a means to fix my images on Fabriano Premium 300gsm heavy Italian cotton paper which is mould-made and acid free, guaranteeing extremely long conservation over time. These works are a critical take on the haves versus the have-nots while maintaining a sense of humor. I am speaking to the visual power of wealth, fashion, life, death and money. The result? Art that hopefully takes collectors to new and sometimes nostalgic and introspective places.

To accomplish this, she not only uses a wide variety of materials and mediums including reclaimed silkscreen frames, discarded analog technology, luxury brands and commercial packaging, but she also incorporates mathematics, organic chemistry, mechanics and photography into her work. Smith also works with 8mm film and other analog film mediums to blend the practice of filmmaking and painting. Her recent work explores the relationship between pop culture, luxury brands, political upheaval and crisis. Taylor's intention is to blend painting with elements of technology, film, chemistry and mechanics to create an unexpected and transformative experience.
