ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is a detail print of an original painting. My eyesight is very poor and I wear glasses that are like a magnifying glass. Because of this, I often get very close to objects in my surroundings and end up noticing details that are often missed by others. The way I see the world inspires me to zoom in on my larger paintings to focus on the most beautiful details and offer them as 'Detail Prints'! Often, my detail prints are round because of the shape of microscopes, magnifying glasses and the eye itself. This Cosmic Bloom series marks a new trajectory on my journey of life. COSMIC BLOOM Beauty is a seed that finds a way in A punctuation of joy In a heavy existence That can bloom In the darkness Broken hips Altered my trajectory Slow time gave way To a cosmic expanse of new possibilities I run again With a lightness and sow new seeds for those who need a cosmic bloom ARTIST STATEMENT Jessica Joy London’s work explores the wonders hidden in the everyday. In the grocery store, she rifles through the onions collecting onion skin. On walks, she collects trash and weeds from the sidewalks of her South Philadelphia neighborhood. Everything she sees is fair game to be included in experiments on her hydrophobic science lab-like surfaces. Each experiment is a collaboration with natural phenomena: surface tension, evaporation, dispersion. In her studio, like the lab she spent time in in graduate school, she uses acrylic ink to make normally invisible interactions visible, providing a deeper understanding of the beauty and complexity of everyday phenomena. Michelle Grabner described her paintings as “contemporary photographs” because of the photographic details of her finished pieces.
