Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian army has shelled Mykolaiv and the region almost every day, but from February 24, 2022, Mykolaiv stands as an indomitable fortress that protects the south and all of Ukraine from the Russian invaders. On March 24, 2022, the city of Mykolaiv was awarded the distinction of "Hero City of Ukraine" by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in order to celebrate the feat, mass heroism and resilience of citizens shown in the defense of their cities during the repulse of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
