ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an unstretched work, comes shipped in a tube. Far more cost effective and also safer and more ecological. I always feel that any painting with a real genuine story or emotion can turn out good, regardless of skills or materials. So this work was inspired by a quick little dream that I had just before I woke up, as an overview I had an amazing feeling of things getting better, like a weird lightness, that there really was any sort of hope for the future...but then I just swung around and the ground was just giving way beneath me, a powdery red earth just drifting off. I felt the thing of falling and that was the end. However, the dream is just now a painting and I am hoping that the dream inspiration might lift me up not down.

b 1971 UK Self taught artist working with many mediums but liking paint the best. Painting is just a language that I am more comfortable with, it has an honesty, it is what it is. My work is very unprocessed, direct, I don't see as I paint , just look at it sometime later, then start again or leave it alone until another time. I work with layers, building them up and scraping back, finding stuff I had forgotten about, the painting starts to get interesting, to develop its own past. The word paintings write themselves with no restraint, if I'm not sure I keep writing over, but ultimately the words, however buried, have been said.
