ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The last full moon of winter in the north is heralded by caws. Spring will soon be ushered in as murders of crows flock to the newly thawing ground. In this second tribute to the Crow Moon, I have singled out a lone crow perched in the moonlight. The nigredro, or blackening, in alchemy is represented by the crow. A stage of personal reflection that is likened to the dark night of the soul. If given the time and darkness required, it will soon give way to the light of the albedo, or white swan

Just like most art, life isn’t easily categorized and controlled. As a stroke survivor with chronic illnesses, I am painfully aware of the lack of control we truly have. However, I find its best lessons come from those unintended bumps we let unfold and flow. Watercolor is a way for me to practice this philosophy of surrender and synchronicity. Hailing from Ohio’s Miami Valley, I traveled south for my B.F.A. to the Savannah College of Art & Design. Much like its majestic live oaks, my heart has rooted itself deeply into the sandy soil of the Southeast. I currently reside and create my work in Florida. I utilize traditional and experimental techniques in my personal body of work as well as in custom portraiture commission work.
