ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is called 'Delta Waves' because it brought to mind, the mouth of a river with its tidal marks and build-up of silt of various shades. Delta Waves also refers to those brain waves which are associated with the very deepest levels of sleep, relaxation and peace of mind. They are essential to the process of healing and restoration and are closely linked to empathy and intuition. Delta Waves control all of the body's activities that we are not conscious of. So, I thought it an appropriate name for a painting that grew from my subconscious mind. This painting is on gallery wrap canvas and ready to hang.

I paint because there is nothing more I would rather be doing. It gets me up in the morning looking forward to the possibilities the day brings. I am greatly influenced by my nomadic life. In my formative years I lived across the length and breadth of India, a sub-continent of extreme diversity of landscape, people, culture and language. Later I lived in vibrant cities like Tokyo, Dublin, Mumbai, Sydney,Singapore and now Hong Kong, each having contributed to making me what I am today. I portray the land, the people and the flora -fauna through the filter of my collective experiences. I don’t believe in tying myself down to a particular style or theme, but attempt to change and evolve continuously. I don’t feel today how I felt a month ago, so each work is a reflection of emotions and experiences at that particular time in my life. I enjoy exploring different facets of nature and man-the mighty to the mundane. My paintings amalgamate memories and musings. I work predominantly in acrylics and oils but make forays into pastels, cold wax medium and colour pencils, as my fancy takes me.
