About The Artwork
Desert Winds will be the cover image of the literary magazine, Yellow Arrow Journal Vol VI No. 2. I have entered a new phase in my artwork where I embrace what I’ve always fought as my messy and convoluted nature. This “scribbled” landscape was created by placing large daubs of ink on the paper and using a stylus to swirl it around and mix the colors until a shape began to emerge. I applied layer upon layer of paint and scribbled a subject into being. I felt the manner of its making as well as the long path I’ve taken to arrive at a willingness to create like a child again. NOTE: This painting will be shipped with the mat pictured.

What gives me joy in the world is experiencing still moments in the process of unfolding, whether a hillside that kneads its earth in geologic time or an insect perched, its arrival and departing flight reverberating in the frozen moment. My small work tends toward the figurative and my larger works the abstract. In everything, I need to see the arc of change, not as a photo would capture a bird in flight but the way we experience the ephemeral now that is never really there by the time we notice it.
