Adem Genç (Ardeşen/Turkey, 1944) Trained as a painter and artisan in the Art and Craft department of Gazi Institute of Education between 1962-65. Taught art and craft in Adana and in Rize and then, received Turkish Government scholarship to do postgraduate studies abroad. In England, he attended Figure Drawing and Printmaking courses at Bournemouth College of Art and then was admitted into Saint Martin’s School of Art in London (Presently, UAL/University of the Arts London, Central and Saint Martin’s College of Art), and completed Postgraduate / Advanced Painting Programme in 1974. Upon his return to Turkey, he taught Western Art / Contemporary Period, drawing, studio painting, and graphic art in Samsun Institute of Education, Aegean University and Dokuz Eylül University where he also obtained his PhD. Dr. Genç, completed his Post-Doctoral research at California State University as a Fulbright Scholar and artist in residence (1991-92) and then became Professor of Art in 1992. He has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad. He participated, The Second Istanbul International Art Biennale ın 1990, Houston International Festival as the designated artist for Turkey in 1995, that year Turkey was the honorary country of the festival. In September 2005, Professor Genç joined The Second International Art Biennale in Beijing, PRC (China) and also delivered paper at the academic seminar in the city of Hefei. His works are included in national, international and public and private collections in Turkey and in many countries such as the USA, England, Australia, Slovenia, Germany, Romania, Switzerland and the Russian Federation. Up to the present, he has published two books and many articles. Moreover, his comprehensive bibliographic book Adem Genç/Post-Dada Pop Sürecinde Yeni Soyut Yaklaşımlar ( Adem Genç/The New Abstract Approaches During Post Dada and Pop Period ) was published in 2004 with an introduction by poet and art critic, Ahmet Oktay. Prof. Genç delivered papers at national and international symposiums in the field of Art, Art Philosophy and Art Education. Between 1980-96, Genç gained 13 awards from painting competitions in Turkey, three of which were first prizes including the First Prize of İnönü Foundation Painting Competition held in Ankara in 1984.
