This piece was inspired by Jazz-Bebop master Dizzy Gillespie. John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, educator and singer. He was a trumpet virtuoso and improviser, building on the virtuosic style of Roy Eldridge but adding layers of harmonic and rhythmic complexity previously unheard in jazz. Dizzy Gillespie blowing his trumpet wearing a dashiki and kufi all in a burgundy gradient. Acrylic on a canvas.

A native of Brooklyn, Raul Rodriguez started creating art at a very young age. Heavily influenced by comic books and street art and graffiti, Rodriguez was mesmerized by the oversized fonts and vivid colors he saw in and around New York City. Inspired by music, dance, poetry and the African diaspora, his art deeply reflects his culture and his environment. Rodriguez prefers to express the multilayered experiences of Black and Latino people -- strong and charismatic men and women that make a difference in our communities. Through the layers of his work, he aims to show the depth of the Black and Latino experience. He uses various mediums to embody the feelings and flow of movement of people. His art projects a vibe of the human body moving to its own rhythm.
