About The Artwork

I was working as an art teacher at Roberto Clemente H.S. in Chicago from 1997 until 2007. It was a tough school back then. In 2006 it was considered the third violent school in the nation (USA). We had many students in gangs, and they would fight a lot. I had to teach them about the power of education. So, I wrote a grant and Michel Jordan's foundation gave me $2,500 for art supplies. I divided my students in groups of 5-6 and gave them large canvases. They had to choose one subject that they love the most: math, English, PE, Science, etc. Later, they had to create a collage and painting about particular subject and how it is going to help them in the future. I taught them proportions of human body and human face as well. While working with my students on this project "Education Is Power", I decided to work on my own collage-painting in the classroom, and little by little I demonstrated for my students all kinds of different art techniques. All their works were hanged around the school above the lockers. Original painting is 48"x 59/60". It is listed on my Etsy page, https://www.etsy.com/listing/1489015739/original-painting-education-is-power?click_key=c469ff610a6c87ad19917b47d1df76d813bbe29c%3A1489015739&click_sum=cebe2e19&ref=shop_home_active_15&cns=1

I was born and raised in former USSR, Ukraine. I immigrated to the USA in 1992. My first art degrees from Myrgorod Ceramics College and Lviv National Academy of Arts are from Ukraine. Later, I did two masters degrees in interdisciplinary art and teaching art from Columbia College, Chicago. Now, I live and work in Chicago. At present, I am a high school art teacher and a visual artist. I've taught visual arts for over 23 years. Currently, I am focusing on painting art works that explore invisible aspects of spiritual world and our desire to see it. Also, I combine abstract with figurative style. Hopefully, my art will resonate with your feelings and mood.
