ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Eurasian Eagle Owl is a nocturnal hunter, relative of the Great Horned Owl, and among the largest of owls, with wingspans up to 6 foot 2 inches (one inch more than the artist's height). Unlike human-made flying machines with their shiny coverings, the intricate machinery of an owl is partly visible to the naked eye in the form of densely interwoven feathers, which are both light and tough. This rendering of an owl hunting in the predawn hours is done in India ink, acrylic, gouache, and pigment, fixed with a casein spray.
