Marsel Yalalov was born in Orenburg, Russia in 1980. He began his career in 2000, the same year he began to participate in exhibitions. In 2006 he joined the Union of Russian Artists. After relocating to Moscow, he continued to engage in his practice and exhibition activities. He participated in numerous exhibitions and festivals, including the National Prize for Contemporary Art Black Square in 2007. His works can be found in private collections in Russia, USA and Canada. Statement In his work, Marsel Yalalov reflects upon the contemporary world, interpreting his personal reaction to incidental exposure to news, social and current events. The result of his work are paintings, in which objects taken out of context connect and create new meanings, a kind of desire for entropy. To create collages, he uses different source material, such as still frames from videos, photography, news feeds and personal archives, relying on his own feelings and comprehension, all the while he searches for plots — some markers of our time. Yalalov is interested in the symbiosis of the digital and real worlds, partly referring back to it in his practice. The created duality is a digital file that exists in the real world as a physical object. Yalalov works in the genre of figurative painting. In his practice, he uses graphic and 3D editors, transferring them to the plane of the canvas using oil, acrylic and spray paint.
