ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In 2023, I was commissioned to create my first custom piece. The idea was for the painting to be hung on a large white wall in the waiting room of a psycho-pedagogical studio, where children with learning difficulties and other issues are treated. My goal was to complete the work using only three colors: black, red, and blue, reflecting the favorite colors of the three women who commissioned it. While I started with enthusiasm, I soon realized it wasn't aligning with my vision. It was only on my second attempt that I found success. Thus, this piece represents that first attempt, which, in a sense, was a failure—my first failure—and it was fateful. That’s why the piece is titled "Fateful Foundational Failures." Although the original canvas is no longer available, you can purchase a print through Saatchi Art here. Juan Martín is a contemporary artist and writer, based in Junín, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Juan has dedicated his life to creation in multiple facets, encompassing painting, drawing, and writing. His art represents a mental quest, an exploration of the subconscious manifested through an eclectic style that combines elements of expressionism and geometry. Juan's work is inspired by the past, illness, and faith in all its interpretations. Although he lacks formal academic training, he has participated in various exhibitions and published his book, reflecting his commitment to art. His work is directed at those who feel engaged by his expression, and he creates both original pieces and commissioned works, such as his piece Trisquel for a psychopedagogical center and his triptych Calendario Agua. Juan's creative process is a dance between improvisation and meticulous planning. Sometimes he is swept away by waves of creativity, producing several works in a single day; other times, he spends days conceiving a single piece. All his works are original and handmade in his studio. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Juan is a philosophy teacher and a music lover, enjoying moments of reflection accompanied by a good mate. His aim is to verbalize the inexpressible, capturing pain and suffering in his art, and making the unconscious conscious to contribute to the healing process through a kind of religious procession in the form of art.
