Oshadi (currently living in Adelaide, Australia) is an Interior Designer and a self-taught artist, born and raised In Kandy, a picturesque city in the central hills of Sri Lanka. She shared the same admiration her father had towards nature, the mountains, and the night sky. And as a child she loved painting landscapes of beautiful sunny flower fields and mountains against clear blue sky. Fashion illustration was another favorite pastime activity she enjoyed as a teenager. The interests were always in the fields of art and design and as a result she studied art at school, until the GCE O/L Exam. During this time, she was able to participate in school art exhibitions and learn to make sculptures with clay and cement, in addition to being involved in other art related projects in school. She graduated as an Interior Architect in 2014 and continued painting as a hobby using watercolor on paper. In 2018, Oshadi left Sri Lanka and moved to Semarang, Indonesia. Leaving home and friends to live in an unfamiliar new city was a challenge she didn’t foresee. The process of painting became therapeutic at this time so she decided to create abstract paintings with the intention to be more expressive. Her artwork is an intuitive interpretation of how she sees her mind and believes the greatest inspiration comes from understanding your own mind and soul. Guided by intuition, the feelings and the emotions are transferred on to the canvas with the selection of colors, the movements of the brush strokes and paint splatter. Her abstract paintings consist of mix media techniques on canvas while acrylic being the main medium. She also uses natural earth pigments from crushed colorful rocks and soils collected from the places she has travelled to.
