ABOUT THE ARTWORK

'Fame' is a painting that evolved over many weeks. The painting began as two professional swimmers in an arctic landscape. The artist chose to extend the narrative to the topic of 'fame'. The diving board on the bottom right refers to the origins of the painting and the curtain through to another world on the left depicts the different world that the character came from before her 'fame'. The wariness of the character who is guarding the main character adds to the mystery of this painting. This is further emphasised by the character wearing sunglasses. Who is this person and why is she famous? The jewels on her top represent the 'badges' that often come with 'fame' - they could be awards or specific things she is famous for. Bold brushwork creates a strong sense of movement and purpose within the painting as the characters move through into this world of 'Fame'.

Melody Reynolds lived and painted in Earls Court during the early 90’s while she was studying at St Martins. She could often be found amongst artists, actors and writers in The Troubadour. Melody is a storyteller. Her unique figurative painting is often symbolic and emotive. She presents worlds of idiosyncratic characters using bold colour, dynamic composition, and curious landscapes. Melody’s art career flourished following an early exhibition at La Bouchée on the Old Brompton Road. Later, she exhibited locally at the Hollywood Arms Gallery in 2004 and The Troubadour Gallery in 2005. Since then, she has built on these foundations with a number of highly successful exhibitions in and around central London. She is now represented by Thomas Spencer Fine Art and The Russell Gallery, Putney. Melody’s recent work includes a collection of paintings, ‘The Swimming Pool Series’. Instagram:
