ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Desert is a kind of burial, a kind of loneliness, a kind of desolation, a kind of broadness. Under her body, she hides a lot of treasure at the same time. 沙漠是一种埋葬,一种孤独,一种凄凉,一种宽广,但是她同时暗藏了很多宝藏。

“My art addresses identity crisis since I was 16. There are a few places in the world I have nostalgia with, but no place I can call home. I do not have a sense of belonging in Australia, so as in China, where I called home. Grown up as a Chinese but live in a different country has always made me feel rootless. How do I feel of being a ‘Chinese’? I observe the world as an outsider. No matter where in the world, each people have their own geometric shape, floating in an open space, either still or progressively, trying to pursue things intangible. . Life is full of rhythms, intangible shadows and loneliness” Xinchang Liu is an independent contemporary artist, born 1997 in Shandong, China. Xinchang has been studied in Auckland, Tokyo and Melbourne since 16. Curves and geometries are her main subjects. She is known for her surrealistic landscapes with floating curves as subjects. Xinchang started her professional artist-career in 2019. The inspiration comes from her travel adventures around the world: the Sahara desert, the Mongolia prairie, the Israel dead sea etc. Xinchang is known for its special, enigmatic curves: these different curves represent her observations towards individuals, and linked with her rootless, floating and loneliness world exploring experiences. Her curves are representing a special place in the long tradition of Chinese landscape artists and calligraphers. These curves and geometries are her artistic conclusions of the world... combined with her deep love and root in Chinese culture.
