About The Artwork

Following the Women's March, I awoke with a vision of graffiti scrawled across a portrait. The vision translated into a body of reworked portraits featuring slogans from recent political events, quotations, and my own words. Reworking these portraits, I give myself and my subjects a voice. They move from the singular to the universal. The painting is done on an acid-free, archival, cradled wood panel with a 1 1/2 inch profile of birch plywood. The painting is framed in a hardwood maple floating frame and is ready to hang.

I am a Vermont artist specializing in contemporary portraiture, still life, and landscape. Working in the alla prima tradition in oil and acrylic gouache, I paint largely from life, seeking to capture a sense of immediacy, freshness, and intimacy in my paintings. My work was featured in the exhibition "Body of Work: New Perspectives on Figure Painting" at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. as part of the museum's biennial exhibition series Women to Watch. My paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums on the East and West Coast as well as Canada and are held in private collections throughout the U.S.
