ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Movement is a key factor in my practice, an abstraction of fluid forms which reflect an interest in the human condition. Elements of soulful musicality and dance are present in the work which explores the philosophy of poetry of the performer themselves. The canvas is rich in texture with minimalistic, monochromatic figures which are delicate and sensual, the process of making mirroring the act of movement which it suggests. Overarching themes in this series are concerned with the blended autobiographies and biographies of the sometimes tormented human psyche. This is often the case with those who live their lives in the spotlight exposing and merging public and private persona as one.

Derek Dickinson
United Kingdom
Derek Dickinson (b.1960) originates from south west England. In 1983 he relocated to London and worked as a designer and stylist for film, photography, television, video and performance, as an assistant director on music videos, in artist management and PR, predominantly associated with the music industry. After returning to the South West Derek completed his BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Plymouth University in 2010, in 2022 he achieved a Masters Degree in Contemporary Art Practice. He has exhibited work in numerous solo and collaborative shows including the Royal Academy London, Berlin and south west England. He has works in permanent collections in the USA, Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. Derek resides in a remote farm cottage on the Duchy of Cornwall Estate.
