About The Artwork

Flora is a small hand painted portrait with metal leaf details. She inspires the imagination and will brighten any room. Her stylized skin tone has a realistic edge. Her eyes capture your gaze and look into your imagination. The cheery bright blue background says sky on a beautiful summer day. The painting is on archival canvas board and is ready for framing.

The arrival of the Pandemic has effected everyone and everything. For me, somehow, its arrival induced a new way of exploring and thinking about structure, composition and color in my painting. Specifically, and after much experimentation last year, I began applying paint in a freer, liberating and abstract way. Furthermore, I joined a bicycle club and cycle daily with other riders through the valley and into the mountains. These incredible journeys power my artistic vision: the images and sensations I experience provide the raw materials for my new paintings. I call the new approach: Making not Knowing which also refers to the practice of creation during very uncertain times. I had an inaugural exhibition at Anne Bedrick Art Gallery in Cathedral City in January 2021, and four large canvasses from my new oeuvre are part of a project entitled Artists Comment, conceived by Bill Schinsky, of the Coachella Valley Art Center (CVAC), Indio. Seven artists have made large outdoor artworks for safe public viewing.
