ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work came from a night painting with friends where the inspiration image had a tree with delicate cherry blossoms. I was transfixed by the pale pink and a mountain came to mind. Wanting to practice and hone some brushstrokes, I used the flat brush to weave circles above the mountain, clouds or the aftermath of fireworks. the edge of the flatbrush provided the texture for the snowcap of the mountain and the pink foliage of the tree. The tree's trunk stands as the lone umber bathed in magenta and warmed by the sun in this inverted landscape despite its resolute structure. A very delicate gray shapes the mountain making it hard to discern if it is the part of the stone or the fog glowing before the land. Lastly, the flatbrush was used to weave some broad strokes down into the foreground by the tree making a rain mixed with mist perhaps amidst other plants in the distance. The whole image has that hazy quality of rubbing sleep from your mind's eye first thing in the morning. Though I have never been yet, I cannot wait for the real Fuji, for it to transcend the film brand in my hands to a marvel before my eyes.

A historically American woman, aspiring adapting and attempting Parisienne. I left my American capitalist hellscape behind for... an equally challenging environment abroad. Much like explorers of yesterday, equipped with my limited perspective and a fumbly sextant of the spirit for navigation, I try to find my position in our vast cosmos leaving everything I knew behind except a suitcase full of paint, brushes, and ambition.
