ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Four Sisters is a colorful piece of work that was inspired by Jungian ideas of the persona. The multi figure piece is symbolic of the multi faceted persona that we cultivate over our existence. Our persona is often seen as fake but I see it as another element of the self; like sisters. The persona "a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual." - Jung Another element to my artwork is color. I very much enjoy focusing on unifying expressive color choices. My use of color is usually intuitive and rarely preplanned. Pattern work is found in all of my paintings. In conjunction with my subject matter, people, it is symbolic of the internal psychological patterns we all have

Savannah is an artist who was born in Barcelona, Spain to Argentine father and American mother. During her early years she was raised in Mississippi but 13 years ago moved to the UK. She now she lives in the North East, UK. Savannah graduated Fine Art from Newcastle University and is currently studying an MA in Art Psychotherapy. Savannah’s keen interest in psychology and people directly inspires much of her work. Symbolism plays heavily into her style, particularly with her patterns. She claims that the patterns often found in her body of work are a symbol of developmental patterns within the collective self. She often works on textured, natural papers, leaving much of it uncovered and exposed; a symbol of a fragmented, underdeveloped self, still to be worked on. Savannah’s work is often a reflection on her own personal journey of self-development through therapy. She hopes that her audience can find aspects that they can relate to and feel a sense of solidarity with the idea that no one is perfectly filled-in and ‘finished’. Predominately working with oils, Savannah enjoys exploring different media, whether creating a body of clay work or exploring different paints.
