About The Artwork
Work inspired and derived while listening to Philip Glass' 1987 orchestral work The Lights. I find the repetitious patterns in his music quite meditative. Discord and cacophony has always been very harmonious to me, I wouldn't say these words suit the music but rather hint at the musical bitter-sweetness when I try to describe my listening experience. So here is a visual representation for you, I am moving into text work with my oil painting so it was interesting to bring lines into this painting and carefully avoid representing any meaningful text. I am reserving text for other work where literal text forms a major part of my painting.

I'm a narrative painter formerly employing landscape metaphor as a point of visual departure in abstracts. Recently I have begun to work more figuratively and with text to build accessible storylines through collage with the belief that all viewers can connect with the figure relationships. These collages serve as the laboratory for oil paintings.
