I am Sudarwanto while my artist’s name is Awanto DR Mashun. I was born and live with my family in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. I have two kids, a boy and a girl. I am a self-taught artist. I am always inspired to paint when I see a beautiful thing that captures my eyes. It often penetrates the inner feeling of mine. I don’t want the feeling only, I will try to express it in the form of painting. So it can create a total satisfaction for me that I can share it physically to people who enjoy the beauty. I like working with pencil sketches, camera and reference photos, then I manipulate it. I also enjoy contemplating to paint to make the best of my artworks. I enjoy painting in oil color, watercolor, pencil, charcoal and acrylic as the media. Creating art makes me realize that it is the best choice of my life after I have been struggling with a lot of things in life. It’s free and simple where I can express the honesty to the world. I enjoy doing in realistic theme for most of my paintings. I also pursue to make other styles. It makes a unique and special energy in our lives from its own beauty. I also like to think that my artworks may end up in surrealistic theme. It will be a great idea for me when I am able to paint not only the beauty but also its value to bring. I don’t remember exactly how old I was when starting to draw. What I remembered is that I once joined a competition to draw at school when I was 13. I won the price that made me happy. Since then, I and my other friends participated a drawing course conducted by one of local famous artist that he opened his gallery in my town. It was a short course that it has really given my an inspiration to move forward. I remembered my late father used to paint a rooster when I was a little child. He passed away when I was 12. He was not a painter. He was an elementary school teacher. That moment has inspired me to paint. Time has been passing so fast that my urge feeling to paint has been melting. My wife also encourages me to paint when she knows my talent. But she knows nothing about arts. I hope these have a strong influence to push for my personal success. I have found out so much inspiration in the great works of old masters. Their technical painting skills are really wonderful. It has been just a never ending learning process and challenge for me to make beautiful paintings. I’ll never stop learning as long as I have the strong will to improve my talent.
