ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Loosely based on "Ezekiel's Vision" (1518) by Raphael - this piece took a very different turn revealing a narrative from one of my favorite movie's of all time "The Wizard of Oz" The turn was completely unexpected and unintentional - but became very obvious as the work developed. The piece explores the twists and turns, terrors and joys from the classic story of a girl's search for her yellow brick road.

My work is a deconstruction recipe of emotions, colors, stories, and inspirations - It reflects life with its ease and complications—each part and piece of a puzzle making it whole. It's an inside-out view. Introspection, fragmentation, complexity of being, dealing with confliction. The work reveals a universal common bond of personal struggle...that life is a series of fragments that we have to make sense of. Intuitively I feel the need to “destroy” the work, but it’s actually the need to always challenge myself to go further, not to accept things at face value and never settle. And....a need to go deeper and look at the places in ourselves we would rather avoid. My mission is to make work that allows us to embrace our insecurities without judgement. Making a statement..... “Yeah, we’re all fucked up, but we’re doing the best we can.”
