ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Oil painting on fiber canvas. When I was at a very young age and thinking what to study and who to become, I had a conversation with my grandmother. I liked to draw, liked the art books, and thought I showed my family I was creative and brave enough to be an artist. At that time, my grandmother told me that art will not bring bread on the table. And it will not be a good profession to pursue (the conversation also included me possibly becoming a masseuse because I have strong hands but that was written off due to masseuses often getting arthritis in their hands after long years of work). I listened to her, the authority in my life. And pursued a different career which fed my curiosity, passion and made me as a person. Yet in parallel, something was missing, and no matter the profession, I developed a hobby - painting; which soon became a clear calling and now is almost a second career. This painting is a dedication to all who, even if discouraged at times, will come back to the essence of their own being and show to other kids that even if someone says you can’t - you can and you will. I painted it to thank my grandmother for caring and motivating me in her own way.
