Mixed media on canvas by artist Katrina Jones. This beautiful dapple grey lives on a farm near me. She is quiet, calm, and simply gorgeous. In the evenings, before twilight here in Ohio everything seems to blend into a softness that is ethereal. This horse reminds of that time when I see her and so it suited best to paint her in that light. This painting is a mix of oil, pastel, and some light texturing with translucent papers on canvas. About the artist: Hello- my name is Katrina Jones and I am an internationally collected artist and painter based in Ohio. My style can be considered painterly, expressive realism. My art themes are centered around depicting what I find beautiful, nostalgic, and precious such as flowers, wildlife, farm and countrysides, and the timeless beauty of changing seasons. My approach to painting has a dreamy quality that invokes a sense of peace and harmony. I work with a variety of materials including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, inks, and paper. I have been making art for as long as I can remember and it is my greatest joy.. Life is all about expression. I think it's a choice to express something beautiful, joyful, and meaningful. I'm delighted to be able to share my expressions with you, and it is my intention to spread a little beauty, hope, and goodness.

I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. In my experience, Art is a language of what is observed and felt with the spirit. It feels like my most comfortable and natural way to communicate. I paint about what fills me with inspiration, awe and wonder. I am moved by wild places, flora and fauna, feelings of wistfulness, nostalgia, myth and magic, poetry, and places of solace, which you'll find reflected in my artwork. The creative process is a blend of structure and intuition. Each pieces goes through a kind of evolutionary process from concept to completion. At times I am immersed in nature, observing while sketching, making small studies, and taking photographs. Other times I am reflecting, feeling, and expressing from my dreams and inner nature, or mythic inspiration. I love having a feeling of dreaminess woven into even the most simple compositions. In my studio I utilize the references I make and other mediums for final compositions. Working mainly with oil with elements of pastel, translucent papers, and gesso or medium for added depth and texture. For painting I use canvas or 1/4" to 1/2" thick, birch wood panel as substrates and each piece is finished with several coats of museum grade satin varnish. Mixed media pieces may have watercolor, pastel, vintage ribbon, papers, crystals or jewlery, and other decorative pieces combined with a wood cradle board or frame. My goal with each artwork is to capture a suspended visual moment of liveliness and beauty and to celebratie inspiration, spirit and archetype energy.
