ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The painting captures the essence of a vibrant market scene where the ripeness of plantains signifies a recent harvest, showcased for sale on a traditional wooden tray put on a basin that is upside down. The painting not only highlights the commercial aspect but also bridges the gap between agricultural practices and local economies. It depicts a market woman selling ripe plantains ready for purchase. The woman stands with a hand on her waist, gazing into the distance, adding a sense of contemplation to the bustling market setting. The plantains are arranged on a round wooden tray, a familiar sight used by market women to display, carry, and sell their goods. This scene not only celebrates the beauty of everyday life but also symbolizes the resilience and hard work of these women who play a vital role in sustaining local markets and communities. The title "Harvest on Display" encapsulates the spirit of abundance, commerce, and the intricate connection between agricultural traditions and economic activities within the market setting, creating a rich tapestry of storytelling within the artwork.
