ABOUT THE ARTWORK
While nowhere as busy as it used to be Staithes still has a good number of traditional Cobles. The boats are based on a viking design and are one of the most aesthetically pleasing boats to look at. I love to paint them in their real locations as they are disappearing at quite a pace and may not be around much longer. In this painting I tried to capture the most striking feature of Staithes which is the extremes of light and shadow created by the tall cliffs against the colourful buildings magnified by the reflections from the high tide.
