ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Portrait of the Holy Infant of Atocha. Legend has it that when the town of Atocha in Spain, was lost to the Muslims, many Christians there were taken prisoners as spoils of war. The Christian prisoners were not fed by the jailers, but by family members who brought them food. The caliph ordered that only children under the age of 12 were permitted to bring food. Jesus as a little boy dressed in pilgrims clothing visited the prisión and fed and helped the prisoners. · · · · · Retrato del santo Niño de Atocha. La leyenda dice que en el pueblo de Atocha en España, los moros tenían encarcelados a cristianos y que no permitían visitas ni de familiares ni de amigos, solamente de niños pequeños. Fue así como el Niño Jesús vestido de peregrino decidió hacerles compañía en su encierro, los consolaba y daba comida.
