ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Hope is not enough is a piece to make you feel the helplessness in society, while simultaneously embracing the reasoning behind it all. The piece has sculpture, moss, and collage. It is a piece that is a surefire conversation starter. Hope Is Not Enough is best described by her poem: Systems of lies rewarded Caste systems burned into the skin like tattoos Warm welcomes pursue cold cash Misconstrued your wallet makes a mad dash to empty With this fund and that fund Support this one not that one Run they all suck None construct Burning down like an abandoned house that used to be a home Thrones of loans are piles of trash Where are the mad hatters they ask We call them the public Believing Cheshire cats While they’re on Willy Wonka’s tour Burning inside out while screaming they can endure with no sense of being sure of any available water, float Or craft Trying to see if the arsonist will have mercy and put you out Better ask Nicely and not moan and groan Bootstraps on You pull yourself to stop drop and roll To beg for forgiveness for not clocking in at 8 am Suit and tie expected No tears are protected by HR, your priest, or therapist Payment is not optional Travel isn’t available Mental health not well you know And you know not how to climb high enough Because it’s not enough to hope. -Laurisha Fant 2022
