About The Artwork

Painting of an African Hornbill. Part of an ongoing look into our relationship with wildlife and nature. How we can use them as spiritual totems. The image a Hornbill has a particularly iconic quality. Oil painting on canvas stretched on a wooden stretcher and framed in a thick edge black walnut wood.

Legal Disclosure

The term "limited edition" has various meanings depending upon the artist, publisher, distributor and seller (or reseller). Saatchi Art uses the term "limited edition prints" to denote two dimensional art prints available through a pre-publication license agreement between the artist and Saatchi Art and sold pursuant to an exclusive prints publication arrangement.

The majority of Emily’s work draws on the study of people and wildlife, using the figure as the central object for interpretation. Interested in exploring methods of painting that allow her to communicate and express raw emotion and movement, a continued investigation into colour and form lay at the heart of Kirby's practice. Born into a family of artists in Zambia, Emily’s roots continue to have a deep impact on her work. Emily currently lives in Brighton but regularly returns to Africa to travel, paint and exhibit. Emily has exhibited internationally with shows in cities including London, Lusaka, Dubai, New York, Prague and Valladolid. In 2012 Emily was awarded The Chairmans Ngoma Award for Visual Artist in the Diaspora by the Zambian Arts Council.
