This painting is about the sun in early fall, and how it casts this pink light upon the forest in the hours before sunset. Watercolor was my choice to describe the wind blowing in the soft pines.

Julie Takacs is a contemporary regional artist, graphic designer, and educator. Her body of artwork ranges from painting to mixed media collage. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally in group and solo exhibitions, and also been featured in books and film. She maintains her own practice through teaching and workshops at Mapletown Studio in Canajoharie, NY. She is also an adjunct professor of Graphic Art and Design at SUNY Cobleskill. Takacs portrays the drama of the geography of her native upstate NY in a vibrant and bold way through the use of strong color and texture. The process begins with exploration of the back country and rural areas where man is absent and the land speaks for itself. Using plein air paintings and photographs as reference, she transfers her image to the virtual realm to enhance her vision prior to executing it in paint. Her unique color combinations create energetic and dynamic views that defy tradition.
