ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting reflects my interests in a post apocalyptic dystopian type world where all the chaos of humanity has dissapeared from earth. This is almost a self portrait as i am at a time in my life where i have been learning to love myself first and live with the thoughts in my head. The figure is facing towards a derelict building which should make the viewer relate to the charecter and feel less intrusive by looking into the painting. I decided to add the lazor, drone and neons to show that this is a new future with more advanced technology, it also gives the painting a science fictional subject which i am interested in. This new world is a scary place but an exciting place to explore.

Through the process of painting with oils on canvas, Jacob Lucas creates vibrant and otherworldly landscapes that appear both playful and expressive. By using collage, water colour and pencil as a starting point for his landscapes, surprising juxtapositions of plants, trees, animals and other structures are pieced together allowing Lucas to construct his own landscape experiences through the process of painting. Lucas also plays with ideas of seduction and paranoia within his landscapes. By using dreams and nostalgic memories, as well as inspiration taken from both traditional and contemporary landscape paintings, his paintings can appear artificial and alien in that features of the natural world are transformed and applied in strange and unfamiliar territories.
