1.The concept of an elephant occurred to me in a dream which I was fortunate enough to remember when I woke up with tears in my eyes. The vision of a teary- eyed elephant silently screaming for help, pulled apart from its young enduring isolation and mental trauma from the same hands that whip them when they aren’t submissive enough to learn tricks they are supposed to perform in front of tourists. Elephants are a sacred symbol of Thai people. They play an important role in their culture and to all aspects of the society yet in most cases, they are subject to animal cruelty and abuse, something that has become a normal thing; an idea that struck me one morning of January that has eventually inspired the work. 2. I wanted the viewers to understand the value of transition. I want them to know that everyone and everything has to go through a change from one state to another and that each state is relevant to the entire essence. Some people value a work based on its output or the finished product ignoring the process of how it was made or why it was made in the first place which I think is an act of blindness. I think if you look at an art without realizing the process or the struggle behind it, the entire idea doesn’t make sense. People should acknowledge the transition. The change. It is what gives art a definition. My point being, art is ‘the inevitability of transition’. The process is the art. The process is the essence.
