About The Artwork

40 x 40 x 1.5 inches original oil painting of an English woodland in Autumn. Semi abstract in style. A path winds through the trees towards a clearing. The sun shines through the leaves and casts sparkles of light on the path. A stag and three other deer peer at us from the banks silently watching to see what we are going to do in their home. The colours are reds, oranges, yellow's, aubergine and and soft lilac - the colours of an English heath and forest in Autumn. This was inspired by a walk in the Ashdown Forest, Sussex recently - a place which definitely has history and mystery to it and I hope I manged to show this. I was going for that moment when Summer turns to Autumn - when signals reach up from the forest to the sky... Edges are white, no frame needed.

My name is Gill Bustamante and I paint large contemporary landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. They are mostly inspired by the Sussex landscapes I see around me where I live. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an 'echo' of the place from memory, including any wildlife I may have seen. I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. It always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedy. Website:
