About The Artwork

Inspired by the Man Ray Photograph 'Larmes'(1930-32): Like the emotive expression of a silent screen star in a film still, the woman's plaintive upward glance and mascara-encrusted lashes seem intended to invoke wonder at the cause of her distress. The face, however, belongs not to a real woman but to a fashion mannequin who cries tears of glistening, round glass beads; the effect is to aestheticize the sentiment her tears would normally express. Man Ray made this photograph in Paris around the time of his breakup with his lover Lee Miller, and the woman's false tears may relate to that event in the artist's life. (J Paul Getty Museum) New Fizzy POP, Sugar DADA & Polka POP Spot Painting series of artworks for 2016. I have recently been experimenting with new digital media and painting, the painting is hand painted with a digital brush which can achieve effects impossible by traditional means. I am calling this my 'Fizzy POP' & 'Polka POP' Series. This particular artwork includes hand painted brush strokes 'loaded' with paint spots where the parameters (chosen by the artist) are altered to create different splatter effects. I have offset the painted pop spots against an abstract yet uniform, rainbow coloured spot background. Surreal Pop Stylised Spot Painting - Made from thousands of hand-painted spots. New Media - Seurat and Signac inspired Pop Pointillism Painting with a nod to the spot paintings from Damien Hirst's Studio. All the spots are perfectly symmetrical circles, offset to give the impression of different shapes, textures and surfaces. Each spot is individually digitally hand painted as a unique flat colour. Please contact for more information on this series. • Type: Fine-Art Print • Medium: Giclée • Materials: 100% Cotton Hahnemühle Photorag • 30x30 inches Edition of only 6 • Images are at approx. 85% paper size • This artwork is sold unframed • Signed, accredited and numbered by the artist • Includes Certificate of Authenticity I like to push the boundaries between figuartive and abstract, each spot and dot has been carefully chosen to give the viewer the option of seeing both forms. The colours have been chosen to be both uplifting and playful, playing with the idea of space with each colour giving a different sense of depth, whilst the tears evoke sadness and an underlying sense of melancholy. Colour and form with a Pop Art sensibility. Please see the close-up images for a better idea of the detail. Artwork is shipped rolled in a secure tube. www.c-zar.com
