ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The paintings of Geraldine Bard Weinstoerffer are a mixture of invented images assembled with everyday images. She plays on shapes, patterns and colors and sometimes also on the content and sense of subject of the painting. The idea is to tell what she sees, perceives and feels in her life. She lives in a pictural world and paints it. With a colorful, intuitive, personal, sensitive style, she paints with oil paint, baobabs. They become transformed and come to life under her brushes. The spectator stands at the bottom of a baobab tree and looks up. A window to the sky, space and light. Inspiration came to her when she observed a little boy who was hurrying to go fishing to "be quiet",while he barely learned to read and write. Fishing or playing, an indirect and unconscious way to assimilate all these letters...

Géraldine Bard Weinstoerffer was born in 1978 in Geneva, Switzerland. In her childhood, she learned painting on wood. Colors have always been one of her passions. These last 15 years Géraldine worked as a medical doctor. Discovering oil painting in 2006 at the Malinsel-Löwenzahn studio of Ms. Rueger-Doess in Basel, she decides to complete her medical training in an art therapy school in Lausanne (Switzerland). Now she lives in Alsace (east of France) and works in Basel. In 2019, she decides to live her desire: paint as a professional in addition to her medical work. She loves life stories and transformation processes. She brings us to her universe of colourful, luminous images. The mixture of different images inspired by her daily discoveries and her travels characterizes her work. She chooses different ways of expression like oil and acrylic panting, writing poems.
