About The Artwork

Acrylic painting in a quick, loose manner often starts as a plein air painting. Creating art centers me. Frustration, transitions, personal challenges, political divides... whatever life presents, I use art as a means to process, move through, and transform it all into something more beautiful. I enjoy the abstract appearance of moss forming on trees. It's biophilia: a connection to the natural world.

For me, I've always been enchanted and inspired by the magnificent and mysterious so it is no wondering that art is my greatest passion. Being driven by curiosity and an intense desire to understand and describe my world with renderings of colors, images, characters, and landscapes from my dreams and imagination, I work abstractly and representationally often simultaneously, because the elements of making a painting in both areas are the same for me. Usually, I start with a very specific concept in mind, whether it be an actual still-life or a plan for an abstract piece. There comes a point, particularly in the abstract work when I let go of my original idea. The long and short of it is---- at that juncture, I try to follow the paint. On those rare occasions when I can let go, we usually both agree on the final outcome. In general, I expose myself to nostalgia, history, emotion and a strong belief that all life’s characters and elements exhibit their own magic. With a strong desire to intermingle images and philosophies from different places and times, I find myself experimenting with a variety of styles, subject matter, and techniques as I attempt to touch someone’s soul through my work. Artistic Influences: Arshille Gorky, Albert Gleizes, Gino Severini, Hans Hoffman, Johannes Itten, Kandinsky, John Marin, Umberto Boccioni, Willen de Kooning Artist Statement Art is a powerful dimension of communication so when expressing myself I feel the excitement, pleasure, and spiritual gratitude for the impulse to inspire and bring about positive in the world along with happiness, love and a desire to make our world a more beautiful and colorful place to live in. I know my painting is finished when I look at my work and feel a completeness of the essence of life. It makes me feel satisfied, content, and at peace with myself. When people view my work, I hope they see the beauty, the emotional dance, and the multi-color nature of the world around us.
