ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The paintings of Geraldine Bard Weinstoerffer are a mixture of invented images assembled with everyday images. She plays on shapes, patterns and colors. The idea is to tell what she sees, perceives and feels in her life. She lives in a pictural world and paints it. With a colorful, intuitive, personal, sensitive style, she paints with oil paint, baobabs. They become transformed and come to life under her brushes. The spectator stands at the bottom of a baobab tree and looks up. A window to the sky, space and light. When Geraldine Bard Weinstoerffer did a gap year on a boat and lived in a small space, the idea came to her to paint on both sides of a cardboard canvas. She could create a story with two images on the same board. Seduced by the practicality of the idea, she painted a series of double-sided paintings. Using custom frames to show both sides of the painting, you can turn and flip the canvas as desired. It is possible to fix the painting on the wall and therefore to reveal only one side. But also, it is possible to hang it in front of a window and thus reveal the two sides, one inside and the other outside. The frame is made of beech wood. The attachment of the hemp cord is made on the side. The rope knot gets stuck in a side hole. Different colors are possible (natural, white tinted, black tinted ...). " Light comes from yellow" is the first of these double sided paintings. It is inspired by the patterns of African wax fabric. On one side a majestic baobab tree spreads its branches in the light (oil painting). On the other side, the tree is formed from a collage of fabrics (oil paint and acrylic).
