Hi my name is Arnold Thomas and I’m an English artist living in Blackburn, Lancashire, a town mentioned by John Lennon on the Sgt. Pepper album. I don’t live in one of the 4,000 holes but many of them are still here. You will see from my artwork that I am influenced by the Surrealist and Cubist movements and have much admiration for the work of Dali, Magritte and Picasso along with many others. As with the majority of surrealist and abstract artists my main inspiration comes from inside my head rather than the real world. I find the undiscovered country of my imagination a fascinating place to visit and my works are like snapshots and postcards from that cerebral world. I sometimes use a cubist style coupled with decoration and pattern to create my artwork, sometimes a mixture of real and abstract images. The mediums I use are varied, studies for my works are done with various pens and pencils. My drawings are usually finished in black ink on paper. My paintings can be, acrylic on acrylic-paper or oil on oil-board It is the freedom of mind that I am trying to convey in most of my works, with no restrictions on style or content, like a mischievous river meandering through an imagination and picking up whatever takes its fancy. Yet there is an overseeing eye at work, a mysterious voice which says yes this shape but not that colour. So the process of creating my artwork is both organic and structured but set firmly in the realm of freedom of thought and encouraging an open mind. I sometimes understand my artwork but mostly I can be as surprised any anyone else by a finished painting or drawing. I hope you enjoy my artwork, I get great pleasure from producing them, they are like my children and I want them to go out into the world and make people smile
