About The Artwork

From my Look Beyond Your Plate series, which is a modern take on the topic of still lives, as painted by the Dutch masters of the 17th century, also playing with the "vanitas" subject, remembering the onlooker on the transience of all things, playing with both the very German bread with liver paté, and Japanese graphic elements, such as the little dark blue stamp, that reads "hikari", which is "light in Japanese. Thus the painter combined the two sides of her identity. The plate and the bread are rendered with modelling clay and acrylic paint, so a 3 D effect is created with a very smooth surface of the plate and a very realistic thick "liver paté" spread

In Brigitte's work photorealism and patterns of light and shadow on different surfaces meet to create captured moments of deep tranquility and cinematic quality. Her compositions with unusual croppings and perspectives are a tell-sign of her education as film maker and her Asian heritage with inspiration coming from traditional Japanese woodprints and calligraphy. She has showed in Europe and Japan at art fairs, group and solo shows, and her work is found in collections in Europe, the U.S., Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
