ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece was inspired by my mother (to me, mama 妈妈), a person whos very scent could relax me. As I started painting, the piece itself started to expand from just my mother to the concept of mother itself. In a way, the piece really formed itself as I painted, forming the representation of Mother Earth, Gaia, lying down to form the very land we live off of and feed off of itself.

Born in New York, USA in 1998, then moved to Beijing, China after 9-11. She then spent the better part of her childhood either going between Beijing and New York or traveling to new locations; now having visited over 20 different countries and 60 cities. Born to an artist/actress mother who had her start as a part of the central acting troupe in China after the revolution, Sheng's art education started young. By 9 years old she was nationally competing in her age group in traditional Chinese art and Caligraphy. At the age of 15 she moved on to studying oil painting under a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, at 18 she had exhibited at an art gallery at 798 in Beijing. In more recent years she has continued her artistic journey on her own through travel and continuous learning.
