ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Mara is a demon in various cultures who is associated with death, rebirth and desire. It's quite interesting character with a lot of modifications and diversity of looks. Most information about Mara on internet is about Buddhism conception about demon who tempted Prince Siddhartha. However, in Slovenian mythology it is more connected with nature. There are some legends about Mara's sun stealing in winter or her fighting with another God to not let spring come around. So Mara was like winter godhead. In this art, i try to retell one of the legends of Mara's doing. She comes at night in winter and passing each house she calls out the housekeepers names. Those who will answer immediately die. Boo hoo hoo. Blood running through her hands, skulls and desperate.
