Art Description

Painting: Graphite, eraser, fire ash, powdered pigment on Paper.

Connectivity

Something has shifted. Inspired by nature, my work has always focused on my surroundings: the simplicity and strength of dune grass, the vibrancy and allure
of poppies, the power and mystery of a single feather.

I live in the desert Southwest—a landscape that is so deeply beautiful, it can appear harsh. It’s vast. And free. There’s nowhere to hide.

I have opened myself to this place. It’s in front of me and inside of me;
what emerges isn’t scripted. It continues to unfold until I reflect what I see;
I’m surprised by the intensity of color and brushwork.

The moon rises over the Sangre de Cristos, a yucca blooms, an owl surprises, the junipers cling to the mesa, the hail-damaged leaves of the lilacs simply endure—at times this fragility feels like too much to contain.

Perhaps this is why I paint. To retain the experience, to preserve the moment
of seeing and pass it along.
